Portsmouth have agreed terms with Tottenham over the transfer of Jermain Defoe, Sky Sports News understands.

The England striker has been Harry Redknapp's main target in the January transfer window.

Pompey have thus far rejected Tottenham's advances, but now the two clubs have agreed a deal believed to be worth around £15million.

Defoe is now due in North London to undergo a medical at the club he left just 12 months ago to link up with Redknapp at Fratton Park.

The 26-year-old could be unveiled as a Tottenham player again as early as Tuesday evening when Spurs take on Burnley in the first leg of their Carling Cup semi-final.

Fantastic News, the little pocket rocket has come home, He was an excellent striker for Spurs and should never have left, although I don't begrudge his reasons for leaving, The fans adore him and its just the boost the club and supporters needed. its a shame Pompy fans had to come out and slag him off as he delivered the goods the short while he was with them and to call him non league at times is laughable, the guy is a natural quality striker and will prove that again, the deal was a fair one so its good for all parties. Alright here we go again, can't blame the lad for wanting another shot in the capital. Though they used too much of the Berbatov money, Spurs now have another attack option. I would have rather tried for Arshavin to partner up with Pavlychenko. Now just what do they do with Dos Santos?

Would like to ask why the FA hate Portsmouth so much? Most FA decisions since we've been in the Prem have gone against us. Take this Defoe deal for example, don't the FA rules state that no player can move back to their original club within the period of a year? The FA have blatently bent the rules to suit Spurs and that makes me sick, it should be one rule for all, not one rule for some and another for everyone else.

It has to be said Defoe never did it for Spurs in his first phase, thus the talk of him as some kind of messiah figure, 'best player we ever had' some strange people feel is absolute nonsense. A very odd person I knew called Sanjay at Spurs I knew was his favourite player, which was typical of someone who knew very little about football. Defoe's contribution was overshadowed by Keane, who had a bettter goal ratio, work ethic, and first touch. I'll never forget Defoe's scandalous miss against Arsenal in the first leg of the Carling Cup last year which would have won away, prior to Keane showing him how it was done in the return leg at the Lane - he was the offside King. Pavlyuchenko is a far better player, and I would have preferred a new player, rather than a past reject. That said Redknapp does work wonders with such players; perhaps he can work another miracle.

We (Portsmouth) are a club in debt, if reports are to be believed around £35 million worth of it. Given our recent success on the pitch we have been able to just about settle that debt with 2 transfers, both high quality international players but neither are by any means bigger than th club itself. Add these sale to that of Munatri in the summer, which i beleive is a much bigger loss than that of Defoe, should provide some funds for problem posistions within Fratton. If we can add a steely midfielder and wide right man our season could yet be salvaged from the doomsday sayers and bookmakers. Revert to 4-5-1 with those additions and a slight re-shuffle to the current players posistions. As for Defoe i honeslty feel the man has shown himself up on the south coast, a class footballer for sure but if i acted at work the way he does i'd get charged and probably have a swift visit to Colhester for my trouble

Goodbye Defoe - one player a team does not make .... We've had worse - we've had better. He had no loyalty to the team, just to Redknapp - likewise Redknapp - no loyalty whatsoever ..... not sour grapes - just the truth. 15 million and the Mendes/Kaboul debt written off - good business in my eyes especially as Spurs sold him to us for half that LOL. PLAY UP POMPEY !

Quite pathetic of Spurs really, the most hypocritical club in the Premier League? They rant away at Manchester United saying they were trying to unsettle Berbatov into moving, when he clearly stated that he actually wanted to move anyway, then Tottenham go and do exactly the same with Defoe. Real smooth. Good luck with paying so much for a mediocre striker anyway, world class is something he isn't, average is a much more fitting description! :)

Well at least its a done deal and things can move on for us. We got a nice price for him, so hopefully between the money from him and diarra we should be able to pick up some nice buys. To be honest with all the speculation I'm glad defoe has moved on. He voiced his desires saying he wanted to go to harry, If for any reason he hadn't moved do you really think he'd go out on the pitch and put in 100% for us? I doubt it.

Tony was right to sell him, he's a pretty average player to be honest. One moment he's brilliant the next he plays at non-league level. Congratulations to Tony for selling him as he was just a money-grabbing waste of space. I hope spurs fans know that as sonn as another team offers him higher wages than he is already getting he will leave. Ah well at least Harry can't buy Johnson. And has anyone noticed any spurs hypocricy? In the summer they were saying man u were unsettling berbatov and they have just blatantly unsettled Defoe. Well I hope spurs fans know what they're getting a money-grabbing loyalist.

I keep reading rubbish about "another move for defoe!" and " paid way over the odds" Harry said himself yesterday he paid £12m for Jermain and we have paid around about £16m! Plus dont forget Pompey still owe us money from Kaboul and Mendes! so its actually pretty good business! Secondley Defoe has only been at 4 clubs since he started out a charlton! Thats alot less than most! he is a quality striker that none of the spurs fans wanted to see go! im a season ticket holder and cant remember anyone being happy about it! i just pray to god that we dont sign Downing, he is terrible!! the most overrated player in the premiership!!

We need another central defender, a midfielder, Jenas to go, sell the deadwood and with the money buy a world class player and not middle range players. Woodgate and King ( when fit and not enough) are the only players worthy of a place in the team. as for the academy, I think it sucks and that is why there are hardly any youngsters coming through, what I hear is "it is not what you know , it is who you know", how many talents have been lost over the years........

Well done Harry and well done Spurs! Gotta admit, Defoe, Pavlyuchenko, Bent, and young Campbell is not such a bad strike combo for Spurs after all! So thats one of their worries sorted. I would like to see Harry recruit a good central defender - I think thats also an area Spurs need to bolster if they want to see the 'Harry Houdini' magic continue, and hope for a top 8 finish this season.

Thank Harry we got him back! I have always rated him better than keane. If only keane could have left earlier we could have kept him. I cant wait to see him play with either Pav or Bent. It should be Defoe plus one other, and finally stop all this one up front rubbish........ It doesn't work! Now just one more central defender and a strong midfielder! Good to see you back JD.

It would have been nice to have seen Jermaine a little longer at Pompey but he only came to the club because of Harry so can understand him going back, and we made a healthy profit. I now hope that Tony Adams will be given some of the money to invest in at least two other strikers. The Defoe situation is now gone so i hope the team can unite and start winning ways on Saturday at home to Man City

Has anyone realized that Defoe is not cup-tied for the Carling Cup? He was an unused sub in Portsmouth's 4 nil defeat by Chelsea in round 3. After missing 2 cup finals last year it would be poetic justice if Jermaine were 2 score the winner at Wembly against Man Utd (if we get there!).
