Aston Villa will assess the scans of Gareth Barry's groin injury before passing him fit enough to play against West Brom.

The injury forced the England international midfielder to sit out Villa's 2-1 FA Cup victory over Gillingham on Sunday.

The Premier League high-flyers entertain midlands rivals West Brom at Villa Park this weekend, a match Barry is desperate to feature in.

However, O'Neill is keen to avoid rushing Barry back too soon in a bid to help prevent having the 27-year-old on the sidelines for any futher time.

"We will assess the results of the scans, but the fact is Gareth is desperate to play," O'Neill told the club's official website.
