West Brom's England international goalkeeper Scott Carson says he would have no problem staying with the club even if they are relegated.

The former Liverpool and Aston Villa shot-stopper only joined the Baggies last summer on a four-year contract.

West Brom find themselves bottom of the Premier League just beyond the half-way stage of the season and in real danger of suffering the drop.

However, their precarious league position is not affecting Carson. The 23-year-old is desperate to help keep Tony Mowbray's side up, although he would not be looking to jump ship if they do go down.

"I accepted it (relegation) may happen," he told the Express and Star. "I signed for the long haul, not just for short term. It goes through your head that you may not remain in the Premier League.

Difficult

"It always goes through your head that you don't know how a newly promoted club will perform. It's always difficult for clubs to establish themselves in the Premier League.

"But we still have a great chance of survival if we keep playing as we have. I just hope we can stay up."

Meanwhile, the club's record signing Borja Valero has echoed Carson's sentiments by stating he would not be looking to leave if they were playing Championship football next term.

"I came here knowing everything that could happen because we are a small team in the league," said the £4.7million capture from Real Mallorca.

"If we finally go down to the Championship, I would not have any problem continuing playing here."
