Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has reiterated his stance regarding the future of Marvin Elliott.

The Robins boss insists the midfielder is not for sale and has warned any potential suitors not to waste their time by lodging an approach during the January transfer window.

The Ashton Gate outfit have stated that they have no intention of parting with any of their first-team stars before 2nd February.

That, therefore, includes Elliott, who has been reported to be attracting interest from Premier League side Portsmouth and Championship leaders Wolves.

"There is absolutely nothing in these stories and I don't know where they are coming from," Johnson told the Evening Post.

"The chairman came out earlier this week and said we are not in the business of selling our best players and that remains the case. Obviously, some people are not listening.

"We don't have to sell and that's the bottom line. I definitely don't want to lose any players who are important to the club's future progress and I'm looking to strengthen the squad rather than sell it off.

"There have been no offers for Marvin Elliott from any club and I certainly haven't received a phone call from either Portsmouth or Wolves. It's the silly season and this is something we're going to have to live with for the next few weeks."

Meanwhile, Johnson will not be following up his interest in Vitor Vinha.

The Portuguese defender was one of a number trialists at Ashton Gate last week, but the Robins have opted against offering permanent deals to any of the hopefuls.

A club spokesman confirmed: "Gary has been looking at a number of trialists but has decided not to proceed with any of them."
