Nolan: Completes Toon deal
Newcastle have completed the signing of Bolton midfielder Kevin Nolan on a four-and-a-half-year deal for a reported £4million.
Wanderers boss Gary Megson admitted early on Friday morning that an offer from Newcastle had been accepted and that the player was undergoing a medical in the North East.
The 26-year-old has now completed his switch and should go straight into the Magpies squad for the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland on Sunday.
Nolan has spent his entire career at the Reebok Stadium, stacking up a total of 345 appearances in all competitions and scoring 50 goals in the process.
The Liverpool born midfielder has, on occasions, been rumoured to be on the verge of a call-up to various England squads but as of yet nothing has ever materialised.
Nolan has played 20 times in the Premier League this season and Toon boss Joe Kinnear was delighted with the signing.
"When I heard there was a chance of getting Kevin I was determined we would pull out all the stops to bring him here," he told the club's official website.
"He's a player I think our fans will love. He's a real inspirational player and a great character. He's the sort of lad who never knows when he is beaten.
"He's got a good eye for goal and has got bags of Premier League experience.
"I think he is going to be a very valuable player for us and someone who can help us climb back up the table."
Nolan, who will wear the No.4 shirt at St James' Park, admitted it was too good an opportunity to turn down.
"It all happened so quickly but it was an opportunity which was impossible to turn down," he said.
"I can't wait to play in front of these fans every week and I'm really looking forward to the next four-and-a-half years."
The Magpies have also been linked with a move for Wigan defender Ryan Taylor before the window shuts on Monday.
The full-back has scored four of his seven goals for the Latics against the Magpies in recent seasons and Joe Kinnear is reportedly keen to bring him to St James' Park.
The Newcastle boss is likely to face competition from Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce for the 24-year-old's signature.
