Charles N'Zogbia has admitted he needed to leave Newcastle as he found it difficult to work with Joe Kinnear.

The Frenchman secured a switch to Wigan ahead of Monday's transfer deadline, with Ryan Taylor moving to St James' Park as part of the deal.

N'Zogbia had stated he would never play for Kinnear again after being 'disrespected' by the Magpies manager in a post-match interview.

The 22-year-old has now revealed that he had not been content at Newcastle since the departure of Kevin Keegan earlier in the season.

Explaining why he had left Newcastle, N'Zogbia told Sky Sports News: "I was not really getting on with the manager and I wanted to move away from the club.

"Since they sacked Keegan I was not really happy with the staff and wanted just to go."

N'Zogbia does not believe Kinnear made enough of an effort to keep him informed of what his role was at Newcastle.

He said: "I did not have any conversations with him and I did not know what to do. Sometimes I was playing and sometimes I was not, without any answers really."

Questioned about how he felt towards Kinnear now, N'Zogbia added: "It is fine now. I am happy at Wigan and I want to move on and forget about the past."

N'Zogbia concedes that he was angered when Kinnear mispronounced his name, a mistake the Magpies manager has insisted was accidental.

"I don't know if he wanted to have a joke but I was not happy when I heard that," said N'Zogbia.

"When somebody doesn't respect me I won't respect them back."
