Lampard: Aiming to catch United
Frank Lampard insists Chelsea will not give up in their battle to close the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester United.
A last-gasp win at home to Wigan Athletic on Saturday allowed Chelsea to move into second spot in the table on goal difference after Liverpool lost at Middlesbrough.
The Blues are now seven points adrift of United, who have a game in hand, but Lampard will not concede defeat in the title race.
The midfielder saw United let a lead slip last season, although they still won the title, and he is hoping the reigning champions will drop points in the coming weeks.
"We closed the gap last year and only fell a little bit short, the gap can close," Lampard told the Evening Standard.
"Considering the crisis everyone says we're having this season, we're still in second position. I know we're a fair distance behind Manchester United, but we'll keep going.
"There are a lot of points still available, although to be fair to Manchester United they have been on a fantastic run, whether that will keep going I don't know.
"We have to believe it might not, worry about ourselves and keep getting as many points as possible.
"They could feel the pressure like they did last year when we were chasing them. You never know what can happen.
"They can't go on winning forever, one day they might start getting some penalty decisions against them at home. The luck can change and do so very quickly."

All things being equal, Man Utd should romp it in! However, football is a funny game as they say. Man Utd will have a hectic run towards the end of May, with Champions Leauge, F.A Cup and of course Premier league. Anything could happen, injuries to key players and fatigue. Don't forget no game is easy now as many clubs are deperate for points in the relegation struggle. Same thing applies to Chelsea and Liverpool of course. Both teams till have a lot to play for, pride and a champions league spot for next year.

Had Drogba been half as commited under Scolari as he apparently is now, we would probably be top, possibly with a 5 to 10 point lead over United. Refering to the Juventus game last week, he was quoted as being "up for it" - considering his wages, what happened in all the other games he's appeared in this season? The fact that the new manager is Abramovich's mate, and that Abramovich is watching from the stands again, Drogba seems to feel that he has to be on his best behaviour.

In my opinion Chelsea have thrown the season away with too many bad results. Man Utd have been a lot more consistant and is noticable with the league. But Chelsea have had key players out throughout the season. Essien has been 1 of Chelsea's strongest players and without him Chelsea have crumbled. Not to mention Carvolho and Drogba being injured and off form. Maybe in the transfer window in the summer there will be a new injection of excitment into the team which will help 4 next year. Deco is too old and to be honest hasnt really got it any more in my opinion. Young blood would overcome this, as well as great talent. I do take my hat off to Man Utd. For me at hasnt been about your big stars at united its been more about the veterans being consistant. Giggs ans Scholes have been exceptional and have molded the team handsomley. And the defence is amazing. I think next year will be the time for Chelsea to fire back hard at United from the off and to remain consistant. I would still like to see Chelsea give it a go this season but i think the titles is Man United. Thanks all Neal Cross

As a big Chelsea fan i regret to say we have been second best all season to United. But and this is a big BUT the season is far from over and with the Champions League and F. A Cup Chelsea's main objective its not a crisis like everyone seems to think! As for next season only one signing will do.....The Special one!

Bottom line is that United needs to win 9 out of their 12 remaining games to be champions again. This is without Chelsea or Liverpool dropping any further points!

Frank Lampard has been our most consistent performer; If he had left the club in the summer for Inter I dread to think where we would be now!

I think Chelsea can close the gap, because Man Utd's will concentrate more on Champions League and they've got massive advantage on the PL title. They don't need to worry about the gap too much. Chelsea can mention about the PL title when the gap is closer than 5 points. Now I'm pretty sure that Chelsea will be finished in Champions League spot, by the way. Realistic titles are Champions League and FA Cup. If we can win one of them(will have to beat Utd then maybe)+ finished in 2nd or 3rd, not too bad, I guess?

I do not think that Chelsea can close the gap, but I would love to see them try; certainly would make an exciting end to the season! Considering the way our season has turned out (to date), I think an FA Cup final appearance, CL Final and second spot in the league would end up being a reasonably good year. Man Utd fans apart, I would not mind betting all the other Premier League fan base would love to be in our position. As for next year... Realistically... Some Stability ... PLEASE!!!!

I think Frank is a wee bit too hopeful on United blowing up 7 points ahead and a game in hand with 11 games to go (not including the game in hand) I could see Franks point if we had to play chelsea still but we dont.
