James: Chelsea test
We are in that awkward position where a couple of bad results and anyone else having a good weekend or two could put us back in the do-do.
David James.
Quotes of the week
David James has warned Portsmouth there is still a lot of work to be done before they are clear of relegation danger.
Paul Hart's appointment as Tony Adams' temporary replacement has lifted spirits at Fratton Park with Pompey taking four points from the former Nottingham Forest boss' first two games at the helm.
But with the South Coast side not in action at the weekend and three of the four clubs below them in the table picking up points, Pompey are now just two points above the bottom three.
England goalkeeper James knows that the relegation fight will be keenly contested this season, but feels that having to face many of their relegation rivals could work in Portsmouth's favour.
"We have not turned a corner, results will say we are on that corner still. We are not out of anything at the moment," he told the Portsmouth News.
"We are in that awkward position where a couple of bad results and anyone else having a good weekend or two could put us back in the do-do.
"At the same time, we are playing most of the clubs down there in the matches to come, bar Tottenham.
"The fact remains though, we are one or two games from the mire and it's not a comfortable position to be in."
The next test for the club comes on Tuesday night when Chelsea travel to Fratton Park, with the Blues revitalised under Guus Hiddink and looking to keep up the pressure on leaders Manchester United.
James added: "We all know Chelsea is going to be difficult - they won at the weekend again. It's a big game and I know I'm coming out with a cliche but they are all big at the minute.
"I don't know if there is ever a comfortable position in the Premier League other than three games to go, mid-table and nothing to play for.
"We haven't really been in that position since I have been here, what we wouldn't give to be there right now. We are on the corner and we have to keep progressing."
