Rio Ferdinand is hoping to have added a few more medals to his ever-growing collection by the end of the season.

The England international defender has been an integral part of the Manchester United side that has dominated at home and abroad over the last 12 months.

A Premier League title and UEFA Champions League crown were successfully secured last term, while the Club World Cup and Carling Cup have been added in the 2008/09 campaign.

That healthy medal haul has helped to take Ferdinand's collection to six, but the commanding centre-half is not done yet.

With top-flight glory, European dominance and the FA Cup still up for grabs this season, the 30-year-old insists no-one at Old Trafford is resting on their laurels.

"It is great to win what we have over the past 12 months but if we finish the season just winning the Carling Cup I would be disappointed," he said.

"That is not to undermine the competition. When I have finished my career it will be added to the lots of trophies I have won.

"We want to try and achieve more and win more trophies."

High standards

Ferdinand admits he has always had an insatiable appetite for success, believing anyone who settles for second best should contemplate walking away of the game.

"I have never been satisfied with anything," he added.

"As soon as you feel like that, you might as well pack it in.

"I felt that way even as a kid. I was in Sunday league teams that won stuff but I still wanted more.

"There are always goals out there to attain and you have to keep striving to reach them.

He added: "I have worked very hard to get to a club that is capable of winning a lot of things.

"I want to stay here as long as possible. To do that I must maintain high standards. That means winning trophies.

"People say you are winning loads of stuff but I still have people like (Ryan) Giggs, (Paul) Scholes and (Gary) Neville in the changing room who have won a lot more than me. They are the inspiration for everyone else."
