Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has revealed that captain Ledley King will stay at the club as long as he is manager.

The injury-plagued defender's contract is set to run out at the end of next season and the former Portsmouth boss has no doubts about offering the 28-year-old a new deal.

The centre-half has played in just 14 of the club's 26 Premier League games due to a persistent knee problem which prevents him from playing two matches in quick succession.

The situation is made even more frustrating for Redknapp given his side's much improved record when his skipper plays.

Spurs have lost just five of the 14 league games he has started while they have lost seven of the 12 he has missed.

"If you get 20 games out of Ledley he's worth a fortune, he's that good," Redknapp said.

"As far as I'm concerned as long as he's capable of playing games and as long as I'm here, I want Ledley King here for sure.

"He's deserved that, he means so much to the club. He came here as a schoolboy and is part of this club, you'd like to think he'll be part of this club for many years to come, as a player and who knows from there.

"He deserves to be looked after and I'm sure the chairman will look after him and he is part of everything we do."
