John Carew's agent has played down suggestions the Norwegian striker could be forced out of Aston Villa following the January capture of Emile Heskey.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill bolstered his attacking options before the transfer window closed by adding England international Heskey to his squad for £3.5million.

Heskey's arrival has limited Carew's playing time leading many to believe and speculate the well-travelled hit-man could move on in search of first-team football in the summer.

However, Carew's agent Per A Flod has confirmed his client always knew O'Neill was keen to strengthen during the winter transfer window and that Heskey's arrival was not a bolt out of the blue.

"Martin O'Neill told him that Villa wanted to buy a new striker when he signed the new contract because of the upcoming Uefa Cup. Looking at it that way, Martin has kept his word," Flod told Nettavisen.
