Gretar Steinsson has called on his Bolton team-mates to help the club make a late push up the Premier League table.

The Trotters currently occupy 11th spot in the top-flight standings, having taken three wins from their last five outings.

However, they have struggled for consistency all season and will be all too aware of the frantic scramble to avoid the drop which is unfolding behind them.

They remain just six points above the relegation zone with 10 games remaining but are also a similar distance adrift of seventh place, which could be enough to secure European football for next term.

With that in mind, Steinsson believes Gary Megson's side should be setting their sights on much more than just securing survival.

"We went on a great run in November but we knew December and January would be really hard games against the top teams," said the Icelandic full-back.

"We didn't get as many points as we wanted and we got sucked back in but we've been improving this season and we want to go as high as possible.

"Forty points will give us some breathing space, especially as it was so hard to reach that many last season.

"But this season we can go higher because we've got the ability and players to do that.

"There is not much of the season left so the break (for last weekend's FA Cup matches) has given us a chance to recharge the batteries and prepare for the last couple of months. The players are ready now."
