Louis Saha is hoping to play a major part in Everton's future by earning a new long-term deal.

The French striker joined the Toffees from Manchester United last summer on a two-year 'pay-as-you-play' contract.

Having seen his time at Old Trafford disrupted by injury, David Moyes was reluctant to offer Saha a regular deal.

The 30-year-old once again found himself on the treatment table at regular intervals last season, but does appear to be heading in the right direction.

He managed 14 Premier League appearances for Everton in the 2008/09 campaign, scoring six goals.

History

Saha also made history last Saturday as he scored the fastest ever goal in an FA Cup final.

His early strike was unable to prevent the Toffees slipping to a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, although he did waste a glorious second half opportunity, with the scores tied at 1-1, to hand Everton the advantage.

He admits that miss still weighs on his mind, but he is determined to look to the future - a future he hopes will be at Goodison Park.

"I wish I had hit the target but it wasn't to be," Saha said in The Sun.

"I'll have to move on from that and hope I can prove I'm worth a long stay with Everton."
