TRANSFER BETTING
Sky Bet make Carlos Tevez 1/10 on (from 1/6) to join Man City after champions Man United confirmed the striker is to leave Old Trafford. Sky Bet's Dave Pilgrim said: "We've been seeing sustained support for Tezez for several weeks at odds-on prices to join Manchester City, and United's confirmation that he will indeed leave the club just lends further weight to this money." Manchester United have confirmed striker Carlos Tevez will not be playing for the club next season following the conclusion of his two-year loan.

The Argentina international was a fans' favourite during his time at Old Trafford, however, he has rejected the chance to sign a long-term deal with The Red Devils.

United had agreed to pay the £25.5million fee required to secure the 25-year-old's services permanently and offered the striker a lucrative five-year contract.

However, despite the prospect of becoming one of the club's highest paid players it has now been revealed that he no longer wished to play for the Premier League champions.

Tevez found regular first-team football especially hard to come by last season following the expensive acquisition of Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham and that has been attributed as one of the reasons behind his decision.

Sky Sports News understands that Manchester City and Chelsea are the only two clubs in the running to sign Tevez, meaning Liverpool will not be landing the striker.

Contract rejected

"Following contact received from Carlos Tevez's advisors last night, in advance of the deadline the club set for concluding negotiations, Manchester United announces that Carlos will not be signing a new contract with the club," read a statement on the club's official website.

"The club agreed to pay the option price of £25.5m and offered Carlos a five-year contract which would have made him one of its highest paid players.

"Disappointingly however, his advisors informed the club that, despite the success he has enjoyed during one of the Club's most successful periods, he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United.

"The club would like to thank Carlos for his services over the last two seasons and wishes him good luck for the future."

Sky Bet make Carlos Tevez 1/10 on (from 1/6) to join Manchester City after champions United on Saturday confirmed the striker is to leave Old Trafford.

Sky Bet's Dave Pilgrim said: "We've been seeing sustained support for Tezez for several weeks at odds-on prices to join Man City, and United's confirmation that he will indeed leave the club just lends further weight to this money.

"We're 1/10 that he joins City now, with Chelsea probably the only other serious contender of the British clubs after he appeared to rule out Liverpool. Chelsea are a 11/2 shot."

S Kelly (Manchester United fan) says...

Tevez is going to be a loss. He played his best football coming off the bench and his work rate was great but his goal scoring was a disappointment 34 goals in 2 seasons. Ferguson knows best he is not going to spend because he has the money he will wait for the right players. He has faith in the young players coming up the ranks. Remember saying spend, spend, spend in 1995 after selling Kanchelskis, Ince and Hughes.

Gary Ramsden says...

It is sad that Tevez has left and sadder still that his ego, like many of the top players in the game today, believe that they should be treated like demi-gods. Had the global recession not been quite so fresh I think Fergie would have offered the asking price with no questions asked. Instead Fergie saw an opportunity to obtain Tevez's services at reduced price and this has been interpreted by Tevez as disrespect. It's a shame, but there you go. Berbatov will have his chance to play more and I think we will see all he has to offer. That said I still believe we need to sign a holding midfielder as well as another striker that can also play on the right flank. The problem now is that the market knows that Utd have £80m and will inflate any asking price.

Tony Price (Barcelona fan) says...

I feel bad for Tevez and the United supporters that adored him. But he was left with no choice but to leave. Ferguson took the piss, Tevez was treated poorly considering the mans talent. You very rarely come across a player with his ability that has work rate and the passion. Leaving him out of the starting line up in the Champions league Final was the last straw. Tevez was born for occassions like that. It was a joke he only played a bit part. He should go to Liverpool and link up with Torres. Good Luck Carlos

First of all ronaldo was always going to go at some point which i think he will regret one day.Tevez was different i loved his hard work but look at the other side of it he wanted to be a top earner if he was the main man i would pay him the most but he aint also he moaned to press about not playing enough well actually he played more than rooney and berbatov the facts are there for all to see and also when united did offer a contract on his terms ie 5year deal and same wages as rio he turned it down for more money at either chelsea or city. He was good but not that good and fergie did the best thing for united so why question a master .

Darren Howie says...

Tevez is a phenomenal talent. Will Man U miss him?? I think not. A force like Rooney and Berbatov are a force to be reckoned with. Signing someone like Benzema, who they have been heavily linked to, would be a good signing to. They should keep a hold of Frazier Campbell too. If I was Alex Ferguson and I had 80million to spend I would buy 4 players. Valencia from Wigan, Iniesta from Barca, Benzema from Lyon and Mata from Valencia.

Shaun Haslam (Manchester City fan) says...

I am amazed. 4 weeks ago all I read was Man Utd fans bleating and screaming about wanting to keep tevez. Even old trafford sang its heart out to Fergie to 'sign him up' and if he was 'always' going to go - why did Fergie make a very good offer for him? Its not that Fergie wants rid, its that Tevez dosent want to stay as he dosent get 1st team footie due to that useless, lazy, lolloping waste of £35k. Tevez is streets ahead of Berby and Fergie has got this one wrong. Man Utd have lost thier 2 best players and apart from a few decent players left, you have a team of has beens, mediocre players, and young starlets who will most likely have thier careers ruined for not making the starting 11, much like some of the buys Fergie bought 2 years ago who never started a single game!!! Where are they now??

Marco Saurez (Manchester United fan) says...

All we need is Ashley Young and Karim Benzema...both good young player's who will fit in well with the united set up. Nani and Tosic will be given more chances to show their quality and Berbatov and Rooney will come good and dominate

Craig Randall (Manchester United fan) says...

It's sad to see Tevez go, I'd have Tevez in my team any day over Berbatov. Berbatov had a decent start to the season but faded and will always struggle for consistency. We all know what he's capable of, but to read his comments prior to che Champions League final just summed up his character and re-affirms my belief that's he's not suited to Man U. He stated that if the CL final went to penalties he did not want to take one, am I missing something here, we paid $30 million for him and he's not confident from the spot????? Man U has been built over the last 20 years on strength of character, I dont imagine Roy Keane or Wayne Rooney ever shirking responsibility when we need them the most. I really hope Berbatov proves me wrong but I dont think he will.

Tommy Whelan (Manchester City fan) says...

Teves will be a fantastic signing for City. He will bring the tenacity the we lack and need in the premiership. Tevez scores important goals and will be an instant hero at eastlands. Anyone who says hes just coming for the money is wrong, he is a footballer and loves playing football not warming benches, thats for the fans. Fergie played a blinder for us buy over paying for Berbs because hes lost out on On the best player he has left after Ronaldo's exit! BLUE MOON!

Jonny Anthony says...

Tevez was a fans favourite but Fergie knows Berbatov and Rooney are his best partnership and isnt concerned about a popularity contest. For me Berbatov is better than tevez. His positioning is better, he's a more prolific goalscorer and he has height and a 1st rate touch! Rooney and Berbatov need the midfield behind them to improve before next year, Carrick is class and hopefully owen hargreaves comes back with out any problems. But the options upfront have been cut and new faces are obviously needed. Villa, Robben and Valencia would be great...benzema,silva and ben arfa are welcome as well :)

Adam Gagan (Manchester United fan) says...

Tevez is indeed a very good player but his scoring record leaves doubts in the minds of many. I appreciate that he was a substitute on many occasions but Ferguson saw in Berbatov more creativity and importantly, goals. Tevez's work ethic is fantastic and I hope he does well wherever he goes...Liverpool aside. The fans should respect the manager's judgment as he is usually right. Valencia should be affective, Berbatov will be better for the second season and he still has a large amount of money to spend. Benzema has been talked about and it is no surprise as Fergie likes him. A very good player with a great future, who would not want him? Ribery seems overpriced although Real Madrid are responsible for the huge inflation of prices. Fergie may go for a young player who will make progress into the first team as he may opt for the alternative of Berbatov and Rooney up front. He already has a left-wing option in Tosic so trust the manager.

John Macken (Manchester United fan) says...

Fergie is no mug, how long has he been picking teams, if he has played Berbatov instead of Tevez then he knows Berbatov has got something Tevez will never have, its called class. Berbatov has not got there yet with United but he will. Don't get me wrong i will miss Tevez for his determination, good look to the man. But he was playing with Man U. He was never going to stay with us so get over it..We have some great young players waiting for their chance so come on maybe now its time to give them a chance.

Dan Nixon (Manchester United fan) says...

Now that both Ronaldo and Tevez are going its time to move on. Yes they are both fantastic players but they are not bigger than the club. They both have been upsetting the applecart with the way that they act and both have been ready to go for a while. United need to invest in good quality young talent like Huntelaar, Ashley Young and Benzema. with these high quality additions United will evolve again and remain the strongest team in the land and Rooney can now be the player to step out of the shadows and be the main man at United. Also next season will be big seasons for Hargreaves, Berbatov and Nani.

Ben Williams (Manchester United fan) says...

To be fair I was expecting Tevez to leave the club but to say he wants to be the highest paid player at the club and we offer him a contract to be that and he still wants to leave says to me he had every intention on leaving at the end of season. Great player and will be missed but Fergie now has to spend and spend wisely. I'm hoping we buy Benzema and would like Silva as I don't think Nani is good enough and Giggs is close to retiring and we need a good creative midfielder. Valencia? I'm not so sure he is any good, Ribery would be better but it seems he will be going to Real. And saying that, why is it that whenever Liverpool, Chelsea or Man Utd go looking for a player Real Madrid suddenley take an intrest. It's like as soon as they see a good player up for sale that these teams want, Real Madrid want them aswell as if to make sure they don't go anywhere else and best of it is they never end up playing. They are buying all these players but what about the current squad? Half of them won't be playing because of the new players!! It's pathetic

Simon Smith (Burnley fan) says...

Its no suprise that he never signed the contract. Fergie messed him about playing Babbatov before him when he is clearly the better player. You cant treat people like this and then expect them to stay loyal. Good luck Tevez and bring on UTD at Turf Moor!!!

Sebastian Borreshi (Manchester United fan) says...

I am absolutely shocked, Man utd have themselves to blame, for not letting tevez play more often, tevez should have played more than berbatov, i think aswell the berbatov signing was a complete waste of money, they could got some one better, tevez is such a great player, and i can undertansd he wants regular football action, but kept being subbed 4 berbatov, only man utd have messed up and have themselves to blame, all i can say now, is good luck to carlos teves where ever he plays,

Shane Nolan says...

I've seen United lose Beckham, Van Nistelrooy, Stam and all the other greats but to lose Tevez and Ronaldo in the one summer worries me. Ribery and Benzema are known world class players who we need, United cant take risks on unknown players (like we did with Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson etc...). Fergie need to make 2 or 3 BIG signings to show United are still a force!!!

Wayne Davis says...

I know fergie has surprised us before but the more competitive the premiership gets the more you need individual matchwinners, both tevez and ronaldo did this time and again, without these two I feel united have no better chance of winning the premiership anymore than any other top four club and even city! Rooney is not a thirty goal a season man neither is Berbatov. To me te premiership is wide open as Fergie has let his two best matchwinners go.
