Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti hopes to repeat his finest hour as a manager when he renews rivalries with Sir Alex Ferguson in Sunday's Community Shield.

Ancelotti saw his team former team AC Milan destroy Ferguson's United 3-0 in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final in 2007.

Milan went on to win the competition two years ago, defeating Liverpool in the final, but their ex-boss remembers the semi-final win as an especially proud moment.

Ancelotti now hopes for a rerun of that meeting with United at the San Siro when he meets Ferguson's men at Wembley on Sunday, live on Sky Sports 2 and HD2.

"Thinking back to that game in Milan it was a particular match and of course it is impossible to repeat certain things," said Ancelotti.

Best performance

"Every game is different and to beat United you have to be at the very top, 100 per cent, because they are a great team.

"But the 3-0 victory over Manchester United was the best performance of my time at Milan."

"This (the Community Shield) is a very important match for us.

"With a victory we can start the season well and get confidence in our quality. For this reason, for sure, it's an important match.

"I hope at Wembley all the fans and everybody else can see a good team that plays football and plays well.

"The objective is that Chelsea have to play very good football. That is the prime objective. We have already worked very hard to do this. I think at Wembley we can play very well and show what we want to do."

Meanwhile, Chelsea's players have denied they spent more than £100,000 on drinks at Salomon Kalou's birthday party earlier this week.

A statement issued by the Blues read: "Further to media reports that have appeared alleging that Chelsea players attending Salomon Kalou's birthday party on Wednesday night spent £120,000 on drinks, the club and the players totally deny the facts and implications of these reports.

"None of the Chelsea players spent these extravagant sums. Whilst many players attended their team-mate's party, it was in fact hosted and generously paid for by friends of Salomon and even then the sums involved have been greatly exaggerated.

"We are consulting our lawyers on behalf of Chelsea and the players and it is guaranteed that formal complaints will follow against those media outlets which published these false claims."
