Bacary Sagna hailed Arsenal's UEFA Champions League victory at Celtic, believing it shows their desire to win trophies this season.

Arsene Wenger's side won 2-0 at Parkhead on Tuesday night after William Gallas inadvertently diverted Cesc Fabregas' 43rd-minute free-kick past Artur Boruc, and Gary Caldwell then turned a Gael Clichy cross into his own net.

The defeat was only the third Celtic have tasted in 37 European home matches and followed the Gunners' 6-1 drubbing of Everton in the Premier League on Saturday.

Arsenal right-back Sagna believes the Gunners had to show resolve to overcome one of the most intimidating atmospheres in football at Parkhead and it augurs well for the season ahead.

Most amazing

The France international said: "I think the atmosphere is one of the most amazing in Europe and it was great to play in front of those fans.

"It was hard to stay focused on the pitch. It's difficult to play against this kind of atmosphere.

"It is one of the most amazing I have ever witnessed. But we did quite well with it."

The 26-year-old added: "The danger was to come here after such a good win and take it easy but we stayed focused and defended as a team and played as a team.

Confident

"We were confident, we want to play good football and achieve some things this season.

"It was a strange first goal but that's football and I think we deserved the luck."

Despite the 2-0 lead, Sagna warned against complacency ahead of the second leg of the play-off at the Emirates Stadium next Wednesday.

"They have a good team with good players and we have to be careful," warned Sagna.

"I like (Aiden) McGeady, he has good tricks but they all like to play good football and are all dangerous. We have to enjoy it but we cannot take it easy."
