Terry: Committed to Chelsea
This reaffirms both John's and Chelsea's long-stated desire for John to be at Stamford Bridge for the rest of his career.
Chelsea FC
Quotes of the week
Chelsea and England captain John Terry has signed a new five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
The centre-back has penned a lucrative deal with the Blues, which could see the 28-year-old end his career in West London.
Terry was a target of Manchester City this summer and the Eastlands outfit saw bids rejected before turning their attention to Kolo Toure and Joleon Lescott.
It was suggested that Terry was considering his future with Chelsea amidst City's interest, but player and club have dismissed the rumours.
An official statement read: "Chelsea is delighted to confirm that John Terry has signed a five-year contact that keeps him at the club until the end of the 2013/14 season.
"This reaffirms both John's and Chelsea's long-stated desire for John to be at Stamford Bridge for the rest of his career."
The centre-back is now understood to be the highest earner at Stamford Bridge, overtaking Frank Lampard and Michael Ballack.
Chelsea have made an excellent start to the season and, having already won the Community Shield under new boss Carlo Ancelotti, boast a 100 per cent record in this season's Premier League.

Great news and JT has just confirmed that he is True Blue through and through. SHame to see the so called Man U fans calling hima money grabber - they obviously can't stand to see a player who has his clubs interests at heart first, mind you they've never had a player like that (they tend to have players that if you wave enough money under their nose they'll be off like shot) - they seem to have forgotten the recent Ronaldo and Tevez situations already. Leave JT alone - he's class and I for one am happy that he's going to stay where he belongs.

This is great news. The strength of chelsea over the years has depended on its ability to hold on to key players at the core of the team. And this certainly would boost the much talked about stability and confidence in the team

Listen guys he could've still doubled his wages at City (£250,000+ a week). Yes he is overpaid, but tell me which top footballer playing for a Top 4 club isn't?? Hell they're all overpaid, even some of the not so famous ones are. Why shouldn't he be the best paid player at his club? He is the longest serving and captain, isn't he? (also captain of his country). If your boss heard some other company was after you after 15 years of service and decided you offer you more money to stay with them what would you do? Say no, I'll keep my wages as they are and some Johnny foreigner (ie - Ballack) can be here 3 years and be on more money than me. Don't think so. You would want to be the highest paid at your firm if you thought you deserved it. The amount of money we're talking here is obscene but that's where football has gone now, I'm afraid. And it's poorer for it in my opinion.

Welcomed development. JT is a dedicated chelsea employee and deserves a pay rise. We wish him a wonderful season of silverwares and hope they will consider an end-of-season tour to Nigeria.

"This reaffirms both John's and Chelsea's long-stated desire for John to be at Stamford Bridge for the rest of his career." Nothing to do with the £160,000 (£8.3 million a year) per week wage packet then? Bring in a salary cap for football all over the world.

Well, despite the thoughts that the Man city interest was to push for a higher wage, I think it is brilliant news. JT has always been a Chelsea boy and even though now the highest paid at Chelsea he is worth it as a player and for his loyalty. I would have been easy for him to take the money and run but his heart belongs in west London. There was a time when he was knocking about with Jody Morris getting into all sorts, Chelsea were loyal to him and I think this is a kind of repayment. Well done John!

When the Man City saga was going about, I said that John Terry was using this opportunity to get a better deal from Chelsea and I was right. Well done John.

It was patently obvious that this is exactly what Terry and his agents wanted. They used the Man City link to push for a raise. Quite honestly I find the "reaffirms both John's and Chelsea's long-stated desire for John to be at Stamford Bridge" statement laughable!
