Portsmouth have reinforced their squad with the loan signing of Benfica midfielder Hassan Yebda, the Portuguese club have announced.

The 25-year-old will spend the rest of the season at Fratton Park as boss Paul Hart, who appears set to lose Niko Kranjcar to Tottenham, strengthens his options.

Yebda joined Benfica from Le Mans last summer and established himself as a regular squad member under Quique Sanchez Flores during 2008/09.

Portsmouth will therefore hope that the former France youth international can add strength in depth following a difficult start to the season.

Hart has seen his side fail to register a point in the Premier League and there have been suggestions the club could become involved in a relegation battle.
