Vennegoor of Hesselink: Hull deal
Hull City have signed former Celtic striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.
The Dutchman has signed a two-year deal at the KC Stadium after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
Vennegoor of Hesselink is able to join the Tigers outside the transfer window as he is a free agent after being released by Celtic earlier this summer.
Hull were keen to bolster their attack before the close of the transfer window, but saw a move for Marlon Harewood from Aston Villa fail to materialise.
Tigers chief Phil Brown has been chasing striking reinforcements all summer and he has finally bolstered his attack by luring Vennegoor of Hesselink to East Yorkshire.
Hull chairman Paul Duffen was delighted to land Vennegoor of Hesselink and claimed the club had beaten some big clubs to bring the striker to the KC Stadium.
"I'm delighted we have beaten off all the competition to bring him to the KC stadium," said Duffen.
"We've definitely wanted an experienced, top-drawer striker who scores goals and Jan has scored prolifically in top leagues in Europe.
"It's what we need. We didn't score enough goals last season. Going forward we have a lot of new talent and Jan will play his part in using his experience to settle them down.
"We've been looking at Jan since July and are really pleased we've turned his head.
"He's been looking at other big clubs in Europe but the Premier League is where he wants to come and play with us."

I Think that Hull are just desperate to bring in the striker they promised their fans. If i were a hull city supporter i would be dissapointed that my team went from being strongly linked with Alvaro Negredo from real madrid( a£12million signing) to a celtic reject. Saying that I disagree with celtic fans slagging off big Jan, do they not remember his title winning goal at dundee utd or his goals against the likes of Barcalona or even his several last minute winners. Even I dont think that he is good enough to be a prolific premship doalscorer but he will help hull stay up and he will give them expereience and at least 6 or 7 goals a season. Good luck Jan

Re: Paul Green (Manchester's second team fan) It wasnt so long ago that no one wanted to come play for Manchester City now was it? Not until the sheiks rolled into town and attracted all the greedy footballers that your team now consists of. It doesnt matter if the footballer is worth 20 quid or twenty million quid..if the team doesnt gel..top four this season for Man City?..dont make me laugh! All those seasons youve spent in the premier league..and just WHAT have you won? Certainly nothing to justify your stay!

Maybe this is the chance that Big Jan has been looking for to really prove what he can do. As for you Celtic & Rangers fans slagging him off, playing in the best League in the world is one thing you"ll never ever experience, so go back to your little Glasgow Premier League. Celtic & Rangers would find it very difficult to survive in England's League 1, and thats no joke!

I see a few nasty remarks about Hull and phil brown,I do agree that playing Folan and Cousin is a total lost cause !! But having said this we ARE STILL IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE the best league in the world ,all you that knock us know nothing about being bottom of the football league, being a laughing stock, but still proudly supporting Hull city. And would have done even in the conference. So if your a supporter of the likes of Berwick,r or Luton town then you may knock us ,it proves one thing you premier and spl boys think your to big for lower clubs, are we all now spoiling your party ?

Not sure. I think our squad is stronger, I've been at all but one of the games this season and think we are better than last year. The big fella adds a different dimension, if he fits in, he could be a terrific signing. Ghilas and Altidore should worry many a defence and if we can play Geo in the right area of the pitch I think we will be clear of the bottom thre come the end of the season. Fingers crossed

I bet the Hull fans can't wait to see Jimmy Vinegar of Castlemilk attempt to head the ball with his shoulder. Thats all he was good for, that and straying offside 50 times in a game. he'll never shine in that league.

Yes they beat off big clubs to get this has been on a free transfer. They really beat off stiff competition, I believe Accrington Stanley and Stafford Rangers were really keen on Jan HessleHussleHoffleHiffle. Hull HA HA ! THis guy makes a snail look fast. AS for goal scoring record - Yes but that was before he started drawing his old age pension.

Big Jan will be remembered by all Celtic fans as the man who scored the goal against rangers in the 92nd min to get us back in title race, then who won the title for us at Tannadice! Good luck Jan...Good luck Hull, but you'll not see him very often on the pitch i'm thinking...bit injury prone last year.

Seems like Hull will take anyone willing to go there. had there performance in the second half of the prem league been a bit better they may have found it easier to attract players. Having watched the big Van Man don't think he'll cut it in the EPL.

He will bag 15 goals this season!! Gaurenteed!! For all those saying about him being a free transfer - Owen (to Man Utd, Sol Campbell (to Arsenal) and many more!! All worth more than the money spent - NOTHING!

If you add all the letters up in his name it adds up to 40 lets hope he can score that many goals , Think I will pass on getting the name on the back of the shirt as overtime at work is hard to get at the moment ???

Listening to the Hull chairman was laughable(weve been chasing him for months,he turned down offers from big clubs in Europe to come to Hull) who is he trying to kid,the truth is nobody wants to play for Hull so they turn to someone no other club wants.

I am so happy that Jan has a club and i am very annoyed that is not Celtic but i hope he has a great career. He just got so abuse at Celtic because of the bias reporters in Scotland. if the fans weren't so dim and didn't believe everything that they read they would see he is actually a good player!

Looks a good signing to me ,has pretty good record for scoring 1 for 2 games through his playing career Some of the Celtic supporters remarks not favourable, seem to remember he was popular with you all at one time,Im sure he will be here at KC

The reason that it is hard to get decent players to come to the KC stadium is not the position that the Tigers are in; it's the manager! What player wants to come when he could be made to sit on the pitch at half time, and be humilated. I agree with what Cousin said, Brown's tactics, and team selection are unbelievable!

Unlucky Hull City. Big Jan spends more time on his arse than he does on his feet. for such a big guy he's pushed over so easily. who knows he may do better for Hull but i really doubt it.

Good signing if he can stay injury free, remember him taking big Rio Ferdinand to the cleaners at OT in the Champions League. If he can regain that form he will do well at Hull City

Big Jan never really played that well for the hoops,as he was to injury prone and was slower than a week in the jail.He gives away to many fouls,so he will fit into the Hull team very well,as they are nothing more than a team of hatchet men.

Good luck to big Jan. I think he will do well and his experience will bode well at Hull. Dont expect too many goals but can perform on the big occasion against the big guns

I have a special place for Hull due to it being the place of my birth, but I am saddened to see what is happening. Fair enough there have been a few decent signings- Hunt and McShane, but why didn't Hull look at Nolan, Barton, Krancjar and attempt to get a proven premiership striker? Campbell has done nothing in premiership, Negredo was never going to sign, Owen would never have gone to Hull. Hope you stay up Hull, but selling Turner is as good as confirming that you'll be visiting the City Ground next season.
