Owen Hargreaves is close to returning to full training after suffering a minor setback in his recovery from knee surgery.

The midfielder underwent a ground-breaking operation in America with renowned knee specialist Dr Richard Steadman in November last year to cure an ongoing tendinitis problem.

The 28-year-old has been sidelined ever since but returned to training last month and was expected to be back in action by the start of November.

However, the England international pushed himself too far in one training session, straining his calf as a result but Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Hargreaves will be back in first-team training in 10 days.

"Owen Hargreaves is doing very well," he said.

"He overdid it one of the days because he got a little calf strain and he had two or three rest days. He is back doing his work again and hopefully we can get him back in training within the next 10 days or so.

"But as I said before, it is one of those ones we are not going to force because you have to respect the amount of time he has been out.

"He is very happy within himself, which is good, and hopefully we get him back quickly."

With United sealing their qualification for the UEFA Champions League knockout stage with two games to spare following their 3-3 draw with CSKA in midweek Hargreaves could return to action against Besiktas at Old Trafford on 25th November or away at Wolfsburg two weeks later.
