Brown: Pearson wants Tigers boss to stay
We would prefer it for Phil to stay
Adam Pearson
Quotes of the week
New Hull City chairman Adam Pearson insists that Phil Brown's job is not on the line despite a dismal start to the season.
In fact the Tigers' form this term has continued from a poor end to the last campaign when the club survived the drop as a result of the failure of those around them.
Brown has led the club to just three wins from their last 30 Premier League games - 17 of which have been losses.
Many believe that if Hull lose again at home to Stoke on Sunday Brown will be out of a job but Pearson, who took over from Paul Duffen last week, admits that the board will soon decide whether to give their under-fire boss a vote of confidence for the rest of the season.
"We are not talking about a number of games. We are trying to support Phil as much as possible," he said.
"All we can do is keep our heads down, support him and get through it. No decision on his future has been made.
"[Guaranteeing Brown will be in the job for the season] is something I will talk about.
"Sometimes the pressure gets so great from everybody, from the supporters and the board, for a change that it happens.
"But if you can be strong and dig in then I think it is a decent solution and something worth considering.
"I wouldn't say his job is on the line. There are a whole set of circumstances that need to be considered but it is not just down to one or two games."
Pearson admits that he has been through the same situation at previous club Derby and intends to show Brown the same support he offered Paul Jewell.
"I have been through this situation at Derby with Paul Jewell," he added. "You get this macabre pleasure in supporting your manager.
"I intend to give Phil exactly that kind of support. We need to try and get the atmosphere more relaxed and create a situation where the crowd is positive behind him.
"We need to get back to that way of working, when he was absolutely flying last year. We would prefer it for Phil to stay."
