John Terry is optimistic he will be fit for Chelsea's game against Wolves after being forced to sit out England's friendly defeat by Brazil.

The England captain was a late absentee from the 1-0 loss in Qatar after taking a knock to his Achilles in training.

He was ruled out of the friendly on the morning of the match and the defender admits he was close to leading out England against the No.1 ranked team in the world.

Terry is confident the injury will not prove to be serious and he could be available for Chelsea's Premier League fixture at home to Wolves next Saturday.

"It was touch and go. I gave it a go this morning and it just wasn't right," said Terry.

"I left my leg out and blocked a shot the other day and it clipped my Achilles which is still a bit tender.

"A few days' rest and hopefully I will be okay. Will I be okay for next weekend? Fingers crossed.

"We will have to wait and see when I get back in the pool and start doing some work."

However, Terry's Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard is out for up to three weeks after hurting his thigh in training ahead of England's clash with Brazil.
