Arsenal have been boosted by the news that Kieran Gibbs has only sustained bruising to his foot after initial fears that the defender had broken a bone.

The England Under 21 international was injured during Tuesday night's European Championship qualifier in Lithuania and it was feared he was facing a long period on the sidelines.

But after further assessment from Arsenal's experts it has been announced that Gibbs will only be facing a short-term rehabilitation period.

It is therefore expected that the full-back will be available for the visit of Chelsea on 29th November.

A statement from Arsenal read: "After being assessed by the Arsenal medical staff, the club can confirm that Kieran Gibbs has sustained severe bruising to the bones and soft tissue of his right foot.

"Thankfully the foot is not fractured and his enforced absence will be short term."

The news will be welcomed by Arsenal, who already have the likes of Lukasz Fabianski, Gael Clichy and Robin van Persie on a lengthy list of players recovering from injury.
