Gary Megson urged his Bolton players to 'stick together' following the 2-0 defeat at home to Blackburn.

There was little to choose between the sides until David Dunn opened the scoring for Blackburn in the 32nd minute, moments after Matt Taylor had hit the crossbar at the other end with a deflected free-kick.

Megson was unhappy with the defending and not at all pleased with the way the Trotters responded to going behind.

"I thought we were poor. I didn't think Blackburn were any better than ourselves before the first goal, but that changed the game entirely," he told Sky Sports.

"We can't justify that as a decent performance at all."

Speaking about Taylor' chance just before Dunn's goal, Megson added: "It would have been fortunate if it had gone in but we've hit the bar and then they have hit us on the break.

"From David Dunn's point of view it is a well-taken goal but we should have got back a lot quicker than we did."

Megson was also disappointed with the second goal as Sam Ricketts headed into his own net after a mix-up with goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

"I didn't think Jussi needed to go out there and Sam has headed a ball that he didn't need to, and that goal really took the stuffing out of us," Megson admitted.

Sticky period

The result leaves Bolton in the bottom three but Megson does not want disharmony to creep into the camp.

"It is a sticky period but we've got to get through it," he insisted.

"We've been in trouble before and we've got to stick together.

"There are one or two issues with players who are not in the team. They are not happy but we have got to make sure that does not bring us down from inside.

"We've got two away games coming up and we know we've got to do better.

"We've got a lot of players at the moment who aren't playing anywhere near as well as I know they can."
