Wolves boss Mick McCarthy was hugely disappointed with his side following their 1-0 defeat to Birmingham.

Wolves - now without a win in their last eight games - went down to an early goal from Lee Bowyer.

And McCarthy admits his side's display, particularly in the first half, was disappointing.

"It is a huge disappointment," he told Sky Sports.

"We didn't compete from the start of the game, we haven't tackled or laid a finger on anybody and we are 1-0 down.

"Second half we had a go and competed but it was too little, too late.

"We have always competed and worked hard but whether the goal knocked it out of us I don't know but we never got to grips at all.

"I said loads at half-time, not to be repeated here."

McCarthy admits losing at home to Birmingham is a huge blow.

"You get downhearted when you are playing against teams where you are expected to win at home, it knocks the stuffing out of you and now we will have to go somewhere else and pick up points and that is difficult."
