Fulop: Transfer talk
Sunderland keeper Marton Fulop has sought to play down speculation linking him with Aston Villa.
The Hungary international has become the subject of transfer rumours as the January transfer window edges closer.
He is currently competing for a starting berth at the Stadium of Light with Scotland shot-stopper Craig Gordon, and the pair have both expressed a desire to secure regular first-team football.
That has led to reports suggesting Fulop could be the one to cut his losses with the Black Cats and take on a fresh challenge elsewhere.
Villa are already well-stocked in the keeping department, with American duo Brad Friedel and Brad Guzan providing Martin O'Neill with plenty of options.
Fulop, though, has admitted that he could be tempted into a switch to Villa Park should the opportunity arise.
"I don't like commenting on gossip and as far as I am aware there has been no official approach," he told Nemzeti Sport.
"But if it is true, this would not be the first time my name has been linked with Aston Villa and Martin O'Neill.
"Aston Villa have two good goalkeepers at the moment, and I have a contract at Sunderland until 2012, but if Martin O'Neill says he wants me then I will take it very seriously."
Fulop added: "Neither Craig Gordon nor myself is satisfied with being second-choice, we are much more ambitious than that.
"If you are sitting on the bench a lot, then it is normal to want to move on. I am no exception.
"I've already proven my quality in the Premier League, so it would not be enough for me to be a substitute in the future."
