Vieira: Ambitious
New signing Patrick Vieira believes Manchester City will lift silverware soon and are not out of this season's Premier League title race.
The 33-year-old French international has rejoined former Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini at Eastlands on a six-month deal with an option for a further year.
Vieira has tasted success at his three latest clubs - Arsenal, Juventus and Inter Milan - and believes the Light Blues will also be among the trophies soon.
He told Sky Sports: "Yes I don't have any doubt about it - I have been really lucky to have always chosen the right team to be successful and (the reason) I chose City is because I really believe something can be achieved at this club and I really want to be part of it.
"So hopefully this can happen really soon."
He also refused to rule City out of the title hunt this season, despite Mancini's side being ten points off leaders Chelsea with a game in hand.
Vieira added: "When you look at the players the club's got you can achieve a lot - I strongly believe that we are not out of the race of winning the title.
"We need to believe that we can do it and I'm sure that the club can do it."
The former Gunner is delighted to be back plying his trade in the Premier League after leaving the top flight back in 2005 and he is confident that he still has what it takes to be a success in England.
"I never had any doubt about it - I'm really confident and I believe in myself," said Vieira.
"I know that I'm not 20 but I'm not 40, 45, and I still have a good rest and most of all, I'm still really motivated."
Asked what his biggest attractions were for joining City, if it was the club itself, the chance to rejoin Mancini or to play in the Premier League, he replied: "It is all of this - the ambition of the club, the manager who obviously knows me really well and I know that I can give something to the club and hopefully we will be successful this year but I decided to come here because the club want to be successful and I hope that the club will as well give me the opportunity to go back to the French national team."
He said Mancini has not told him how much he will be playing for City.
"We don't have any plans - I just came and I will try to give my best to help the team to achieve what the team deserves because I think in the last three years they have worked really hard to build this team so I really believe this is a strong team that can achieve a lot."
Mancini hailed his new signing, believing it can help City reach the UEFA Champions League berths.
He said: "I think that Patrick for me is a new player, he is an important player and I think he will help us to arrive in the top four.
"I know Patrick very well, I think that our squad needs a player like Patrick.
"Patrick won at Arsenal, won at Juventus, won at Inter - a lot of trophies in his career - and I think he must continue at City."
Mancini believes Vieira will be a regular player for City, although he would not be drawn on whether the Frenchman would make his debut against Blackburn on Monday as he took a knock in Inter's 1-0 win over Chievo on Wednesday.
The City boss added: "I don't know now because on Wednesday at the end of the match Patrick has taken a kick on the calf and we'll see tomorrow and today and we'll decide."

yea i agree vieira was a quality player in his arsenal days but whether you accept it or not...he's not the same player and it isnt for the ambition of the club he joined city but for the size of the arabs wallet...lets face it...go back to when he was in his prime...he would never in a million years sign for city, its obsurd. you think just because united didnt buy a any top quality players over the summer that we are weakened...well look at the table and see where we are and you are...when chelsea got their millions, everyone thought thats it for united...but who's gone and won the title the last 3 seasons and champions league and..come runner's up and semifinalists in the last 3 years...we will never be in city's shadow!!!

I must say, I'm absolutely gutted Pat has joined another team in the Premier League. He's always been Arsenal through and through, and seeing him in the colours of blue just doesnt seem right. In all honesty, i would have welcomed him back with open arms. He's only been offered a short term deal at City and what with Song being our only natural holding midfielder and popping off to the African Nations for at least a month, Pat really could of come in for us and done a job. Not to mention, what a great mentor he'd be for Song and the other boys? I shouldnt be surprised really, because Wenger never looks back at players he's let go, but surely he must have been tempted? Nevertheless, i wish Pat all the best at City and when he returns to The Emirates this season, he can expect a mamouth recpetion! "Vieira, whoaaaaa..."

So it's toure at the back, viera in midfield and ade at the front. History shows wenger knows when to sell a player, few go on to achieve the same form they did with arsenal, will be interesting to see what city hope to achieve here

I think Viera is a great signing for city. The experience he will bring to de team will be a big factor to how much city can win. it will balance de team more now with youth an experience. the only other player with his experience is Given and Bellamy. I reckon they'll get into 4th or 5th spot this year. Still a season or 2 before they challenge for top spot.

reply to alex newman...know ur city fan but surely you are deluded to say city are as big as utd....apart from the last 15 years look at history before that..era of best the charltons etc..no way city as big as utd (by the way no way am i a utd fan..cannot stand them but understand history)..as for the signing of this over the hill aged player...rumours abound that city have a six month get out clause in his contract..what does that say...he wants the money and to get back into the french squad nothing else and the chance of city winning the premiership this season and any season is nil, absolutley nil....I just hope for city fans that they wake up soon and see that even though they have a mega rich owner they will win nothing as a squad full over over paid and over rated players do not bring trophies...enough said

Viera is indeed a very good signing by City. It wil bring more quality in the center as they already have very good strikers and defenders...They are a strong threat to all the other 6 top teams. Silverware this season is forsure very difficult but they can surely confirm the chapions league spot if they unite and plays like a team !! Veira against gunners!! Huh ...eagerly waiting for that clash!!

Alex Newman, You are a typical DREAMING city fan, as big a club as united? Im sorry but that is hilarious. City domination for years to come? hah... i look forward to seeing it... or not as the case may be ;) Viera was a quality player, whether he can still cut it with the big boys in the premiership is questionable, if he is really THAT good surely he would be playing for Inter more regulary?
