Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that Robin van Persie remains on course to be back in action by mid-April.

The Dutch forward has been sidelined since November with an ankle injury, severely limiting the Gunners' attacking options.

He underwent surgery in December to help aid his recovery and was expected to be out for the remainder of the campaign.

However, Van Persie's rehabilitation is progressing well and he could yet feature before the end of the season.

His return would be welcomed with open arms by Wenger, who continues to scour the transfer market for possible cover.

With Arsenal still very much in the Premier League title race, and planning on being so for the foreseeable future, a fit-again Van Persie would considerably boost their push for top flight glory heading down the final stretch.

"He has come back (to the training ground) and is doing as well as you can at this stage," Wenger told the club's official website.

"He is out of his boot and walks normally but he thinks he will be playing mid-April."
