Kevin Phillips has revealed he will consider quitting Birmingham if he gets offered regular football elsewhere.

The 36-year-old is weighing up his options as he searches for more first-team action after a frustrating season so far at St Andrews.

Phillips, who came off the bench to score twice against Wolves last weekend, will be hoping for a rare start against West Ham on Wednesday night with Christian Benitez ruled out through injury.

When asked if he would like to be part of Alex McLeish's plans next season, Phillips said: "I can bring things to the club. I can help younger players, but ultimately I don't want to finish my career on the bench week in and week out.

"I've done it a fair bit this year but, if the chance comes to go somewhere in the summer where I can go and play regularly, I'll look at it.

"But I've had a fantastic year-and-a-half here. If the manager wants to speak about another year, I'll definitely speak to him.

Decision

"Someone said to me, who is well respected in the game, that you want to play at the highest level as long as you can. It is easier to go down than to come back up.

"That is a decision I'll make in the summer and see what happens.

"But I certainly won't be one of those players in three or four years' time who will still be playing in the lower divisions. The Championship is as far down as I would go."
