Thomas Vermaelen admits Arsenal will be doing all they can to land a Premier League winners' medal for Aaron Ramsey.

The Gunners starlet is facing up to the best part of a year on the sidelines after breaking his leg in two places against Stoke on Saturday.

The teenager knows he has a long road to recovery stretching out ahead of him, but medical experts are confident he will make a full recovery.

The sickening injury was sustained during Arsenal's 3-1 victory at the Britannia Stadium which helped to fire them back into the title race.

Arsene Wenger's troops were being held 1-1 when the youngster was forced off, but displayed commendable mental strength to grind out an impressive victory.

Belgian centre-half Vermaelen insists the Gunners will continue to display that combative attitude for the remainder of the campaign as they set about trying to land a major piece of silverware for their stricken team-mate.

"I saw the tackle and I heard a strange noise," he said on Ramsey's horrific injury.

"Afterwards, I saw his ankle. It was not nice to see, especially when it's a team-mate.

"We have to win every game now and we will do that and will do it as well for Aaron."

Ramsey would have been expected to feature for his country in Wales' friendly date with Sweden on Wednesday, with John Toshack revealing his anguish at seeing one of his promising prospects laid low.

The Welsh national team doctors have been in regular contact with Arsenal's medical staff in regards to the injury and are relieved to hear that initial surgery has suffered no complications.

"Aaron's surgery has been a success, he has now returned to London and will be in hospital there for a couple of days," said doctor Mark Ridgewell.

"It looks like things have gone well so far. We have not been told of any immediate complications, they were two clean breaks and there have been no other problems."
