Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis believes the best thing the club can now do for injured Aaron Ramsey would be to win a trophy.

Ramsey will miss the rest of the season after suffering a double leg fracture in the Gunners' 3-1 success over Stoke City on Saturday.

The harrowing injury suffered by the Wales ace was reminiscent of the horror tackle by Birmingham's Martin Taylor on Eduardo two years ago.

Gazidis admits the club are still hurting from the loss of the talented teenager, although he was pleased by the team spirit shown at the Britannia Stadium.

The Gunners chief believes the best way to lift Ramsey's spirits after his successful operation would be to end their trophy drought this season.

Devastating

"It was devastating for the club and I still feel like a little bit of the heart has been ripped out of the club," he told Sky Sports News.

"We're all just thinking about Aaron and trying to get him back as quickly as we can to health.

"I'm pleased to say the operation went well. We're still monitoring his progress, but we're hopeful he'll get back out.

"One of the things we as a club can take from it though is the way we came together.

"To see the players come together and still be able to get the win in very difficult circumstances may bode well for the rest of the season.

"I think the best thing that we could do for Aaron would be to win a trophy for him this year.

"I don't think we need an extra motivation. It was very hard to feel good about the victory on Saturday.

"We're just thinking of Aaron now and getting him back and from the on-field side we're focused on getting the results we need to make him happier."
