United States international Landon Donovan believes his loan stint with Everton surpassed all expectations.

The American forward is set to play his final game for the Toffees at Birmingham on Saturday before returning to Major League Soccer.

Donovan, 28, joined Everton in January on a 10-week deal and has scored twice in 12 appearances.

David Moyes' men have won seven of those games, including home victories over title rivals Chelsea and Manchester United, to climb into the top half of the Premier League.

Moyes had hoped to extend his loan deal but Donovan has been recalled by Los Angeles Galaxy, whose season starts on 27th March, and he is expected to link up with them again next week.

Fantastic

Donovan believes his first taste of English football has been a valuable experience, though, and he will have fond memories of his time on Merseyside.

"When I think of everything at Everton I want to think of the trip as a whole and think that I have been successful," he told the club's official website.

"It has been fantastic and I could never have expected when I got here that it would turn out like this.

"The fans want you to play as hard as you can when you are out there.

"That is what I like to give when I am out there and they want to see the team win."
