Aaron Lennon's hopes of playing at the 2010 World Cup could be over after Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp confessed that he does not know if the winger will play again this season.

Lennon was considered a certainty for England's summer squad, but was struck down with a groin problem at the end of December and has not featured since.

Redknapp revealed on Friday that the former Leeds player had not resumed running after a number of setbacks and he has now confirmed that there is no date set for his return.

Spurs, who host Blackburn on Saturday lunchtime, are desperate to welcome Lennon back into their plans in the chase for fourth place in the Premier League, but the outlook does not look good.

Tough

"I could not sit here and say for sure if he will play again this season," said Redknapp in The Sun. "There is absolutely no comeback date at all."

Meanwhile, Redknapp has set his side a 19-point target from their remaining matches this season if they are to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

"You are going to have to be aiming for 19 points to have a chance of finishing fourth," he said Redknapp.

"We are going to have win six games I would think and get a draw somewhere out of some very tough games.

"We have got Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal and are away to Stoke and Sunderland. They are very tough games. It is a big ask and we have got a really tough run in."
