In-form Fulham striker Bobby Zamora has played down his hopes of making Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.

The 29-year-old has netted 15 goals so far this term, leading to calls for him to be included in Capello's England plans for South Africa.

But the player himself has already booked his summer holidays to Las Vegas and expects to be watching the tournament 'on the box'.

Speaking of his England chances, Zamora, who has yet to win a senior international cap, told the Daily Telegraph: "It's nice but it's not something I'm thinking about.

"What will happen, happens."

Whatever Zamora's fate, the striker still thinks England can win the World Cup if Wayne Rooney continues his current scintillating form.

He added: "He's been brilliant. I suppose (Cristiano) Ronaldo going has made him a better player, he's stepped up and been unbelievable.

Tough season

"I just hope that he can continue that into the World Cup because when he's on fire England have every chance of winning it."

Away from England speculation, Zamora is enjoying his resurgence with the Cottagers, who are still in with a shout of winning the FA Cup and Europa League this term.

"It's been a tough season but also an enjoyable one. We've got Manchester United, Juventus, Manchester City and Tottenham (coming up) so they are games you definitely do not want to miss.

"It's hard to play three games in a week but it's what you get for doing well. You play in these tournaments and nobody wants to miss them. It's part of being successful.

"You see the likes of Frank Lampard, John Terry, Rooney playing week-in, week-out and internationals as well.

"So, if you want to be the best you have to do exactly what they do and play as many games as you can."

Fulham went down 3-1 at Juventus on Thursday in the first leg of their Europa League clash where Zamora pitted his skills against veteran Italian defender Fabio Cannavaro.Zamora added: "He's a clever player. He gets those little fouls and pulls that the referee doesn't see and that's why he's won a World Cup, that's why he's one of the best defenders in the world.

"But I really enjoyed it and thought I did well against him. I held the ball up well at times and made him work."
