Blackburn Rovers have confirmed that goalkeeper Paul Robinson has been sidelined for a month.

Robinson limped out of Blackburn's weekend defeat to Tottenham and there were initial fears he would be out for six weeks.

The club have now confirmed that Robinson has torn a calf muscle and will be sidelined for four weeks.

"It looks like we will be without Paul for up to four weeks," said boss Sam Allardyce.

The news will be a huge blow to Robinson, who was still hoping to force his way into the England World Cup squad.

Backing

And team-mate Chris Samba is still backing him to make it to South Africa despite the injury blow.

"The World Cup is coming and he has to defend his chances. I hope he recovers quick and can defend his chances," said Samba.

"We all want to see him back for us and for England. Of course he still has a chance. I think he definitely deserves his place for the World Cup for England.

"Hopefully he can come back fit and show that."
