Cole: Waiting for new deal
Joe Cole has revealed that he still has not been offered a new deal by Chelsea, although he hopes to reach an agreement in the summer.
The midfielder's current contract expires at the end of the season at which point he could leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer.
And despite Carlo Ancelotti stressing recently that Cole remains an integral part of his plans, speculation regarding a possible move has been mounting for some time.
Reports have also suggested that the Blues are not prepared to meet the wage demands of Cole, who has struggled to establish himself as a regular in the starting XI since returning from serious injury.
The 28-year-old has now voiced his frustration after admitting that talks are not progressing smoothly.
"I've never spoken publicly about contracts before," Cole said in The Sun.
"I don't think contracts should really be discussed mid-season. I have always signed mine in the summer in the past.
"But this time it's different. We can't seem to find common ground and it's distracting. At the moment there is no offer on the table, so I know where I stand.
"I still hope to talk in the summer."
Cole missed most of 2009 following knee surgery and concedes that it has been difficult to rediscover his best form.
But he believes he can play a crucial role in Chelsea's quest for a domestic double and has pleaded with Ancelotti to give him more chances.
Cole recognises that he needs to play regularly over the next couple of months if he is to break back into the England squad ahead of the World Cup.
Speaking about his fitness, Cole stated: "There are no niggles. Of course, I am not match fit, but how can I be when I don't play?"
"I want to be part of the Chelsea team to win the Premier League and the FA Cup. But I need an opportunity to start games back to back."
"I know I can help my team achieve our dream this season if given a chance. I am not giving up on this Chelsea team.
"I am not giving up on England and the World Cup either. I need to be playing consistently well for Chelsea before I can hope to be part of the World Cup squad.
"I just want to play football for Chelsea."

My best mate's young brother was at primary school with Joe and even then adults used to line up to watch him play. Fergie made no secret of his admiration for him and tried to sign him from West Ham. I think there is still time for joe to realise the immense talent he has and set a world cup alight. But I think - honestly - that he would have a better chance at United, where fergie could nurture him, even at 28. At Chelsea you get the feeling that maybe there will be more changes in the near future and , as everyone knows, stability is the most important thing. C'mon Joe, give us a go. We'll make you famous!!!!!

I think there's a lot of things not right with the team selection @ Chelsea. Joe Cole should by all means be a part of the starting 11. I do not understand why we have Obi Mikel in the playing 11, how many goals has he set up, or even scored ? He makes all kinds of wrong moves and seems to be in a major hurry to pass the ball if any of the opposition come within a dozen feet of him !! Not to forget the numerous fouls and cards attracted. Maybe Ballack needs to play in a different position, or we need a replacement for him. And we definitely need Ashley Cole and Michael Essien back.

the slowest most immobile winger in the league, chelsea miss pace on the wing like robben and duff! It would be a good idea to shift Cole from the wage bill, he is a liability at losing the ball and short sighted fans only remember the odd bit of skill and forget the mass amounts of wasted possesion through the match!

as hard as it is for me to admit it i think joe cole has come to the end of the road with Chelsea. He has under performed in the last few games he has played but everyone is getting distracted from the point that he is not on his own Deco, Ballack, Mikel, Ferreira and Hilario should all be told thankyou but no thankyou how much Ballack get paid and what has he really done this season. But do remember how many players we have out Ashley Cole, Michael Essien, Bosingwa, Ivanovic it's hard to name a squad that has played consistently this season and that lies with the backroom staff

Joe Cole is class. no 2 ways about it the man when on top of his game is 1 of the best attacking players in the prem & if chelski loose him (hope they do) then united will be sure to snap him up as fergie is a keen admirer. come to the best team in england mate & next season do what you havent atchived at chelsea and win the champs league with united. offering new deals to these bit part players and not offering a new deal to a top class player.....silly. join man u, win ur trophys and get paid the 80k u want you know it makes sense. chelsea transfers are shocking lol. got rid of robben and replaced him with malouda....hahahaha yea that was a smart move. ballack is poor. so is deco, so is sturrage, drogba is tempermental & you dont kno wava he has the mid set for important games, anelka isnt a winger, your back up keeps are far from decent, that 18mil pound left bak/left winger is a waste of money n best part is.....joe cole is off 2 old trafford in the summer. you need a clear out because your team has clearly peaked. essian is class but injured, mikel isnt up 2 it, if frank gets injured then your team is basicly a mid table team

I'd have to agree completely with Mr McGowan. It must be hard for any manager to join Chelsea, having seen the success that Jose brought to your club and still being shown the door. Joe Cole is one of the most talented and naturally gifted English players in the modern game. All players need time to get into their stride following a lengthy lay off. I for one would love to see him come to Utd, with the added bonus of having Carrick, Hargreaves and Cole in midfield, which would also be a massive bous to England. But even if he doesn't make this world cup, by joining a team like Utd or Arsenal, he could still have a shot at the European championships and possibly the next world cup.

Joe cole would be great at man united but only if he was free as hes in rubbish form at the moment. But if he came to united under the management of the great sir alex, he would become the player he was before and hopefully pick up many winners medals with united. HE WOULD LOVE IT AT OLD TRAFFORD. Fergie Fergie Sign Him Up!!

Having been a Chelsea fan since the Bobby Campbell then Ian Porterfield era I can honestly say I haven't seen many better midfielders play for us than Joe Cole in terms of creativity. He is worth keeping for the sake he is British alone. Give him a new contract and get him in the starting 11 next year. If anyone needs to leave in the summer its Belletti, Ferreira, Zhirkov, Ballack for definite. And bring back likes of jack cork, di santo, bertrand and play them!

Sign him up for Old Trafford, he needs games to get him fit but he also needs to develop as a player and will only get that when working with more experienced players and competing for his place. To let Cole go for free would be a massive blow for chelsea considering their aging squad who never seem to have the motivation needed to win the premier league. I also agree that Chelsea play one way but with the players they have i think motivation is what they are laking.

you have to look at this in many ways, Joe cole is a player we need, he can creative things out of nothing, something we lack. but he isn't a messi, ronaldo or a fabregas but he is quality and he is 28 a good age so in that sense he is a player we need to keep as he also has the hear for us. but if he is demanding an increase of wages i cant agree with that. we are overpaying too many guys already and cole who is always injury prone cant be paid that amount of money, he has to prove himself first thats why the chelsea board are offering a rolling contract which makes sense. get rid of ballack, deco, belletti and carvalho and finally give bruma, kakuta, matic a chance, we just never seem to play our youngsters as much as rivals no wonder we have nothing coming thru.

good player but like the chelsea fan say's he's been out for a year and he wants a 40k increase in wages which is totally ridiculas.united liverpool and spurs wont offer him that money either so if i were cole i'd take a pay cut just to stay there cause by the sound of it roman will be culling the squad in the summer and whats it gonna look like when he looks at cole demanding 120k after being out for a year and getting 80k a week.big ego's at chelsea if you ask me.

Joe Cole is a huge influence - he'd be great at Arsenal shaping the younger players coming through the ranks as well as on the pitch. He'd be treated like a hero.

Amazing...not the fact that Cole may or may not leave Chelsea, but the comments by Chelsea fans, get rid of Drogba!!?? You're 2 points off the top of the league for heavens sake. Where would you be without him? I believe they are deluded, No history no class! End of.

Am a full blue fan,i want carlos to play the player that good for the match in chelsea vs intermillan he made a wrong changer by put joe cole while ballack was move out of game,he could have remove analke and put kalou that could be only changer for that match.

He should deffo go liverpool, he's the kinda player we need in are squad. I do not understand why chelsea aren't playing him, they are lacking creativity and joes amazing at creating something out of nothing. What he does for England and Chelsea is brilliant and if he isnt in the world cup squad then England gunna miss out.. BIG. He is my favourite english player by a long way!

Paul Cassar (Manchester United fan) says...
If there is one thing Chelsea are missing in there current eleven is creative players, as proved with there match with Inter Milan. If they were still playing now they still would'nt of scored. Chelsea are turning into arsenal in the fact that they can only play one way, there is no plan B. thats why United will be champions again because they are the most dynamic of the three at the top.

Derek Bees says...
Why have we offered Ballack a new contract he's just not worth the money let him go,and take Deco with him they are both past there sell by date and please give a quality player namely Joe Cole what he deserves a new contract and more games not sitting on the bench thats the place for the likes of the aforementioned two.So come on Mr A you want trophies then listen to the MANAGER the one you chose or get Guss Hiddink back before its to late.

Sign him up Fergie!!! Let him come to Old Trafford where he will play week in, week out in front of 75.000 and win more trophies than he could dream about. I cannot believe that Chelsea will let him go on a free when they have so many overpaid and overated ageing players.
