Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson admits the Premier League title may be 'slipping away' following the draw at Blackburn.

The Red Devils were held 0-0 at Ewood Park to leave them one point behind leaders Chelsea, who have a game in hand.

United were rarely tested in defence at Blackburn although they did not create much themselves - Antonio Valencia spurned the best chance in the opening half when he was one-on-one with Paul Robinson, but the goalkeeper saved with his legs.

Ferguson admits Chelsea are in the driving seat at the top of the table, and that another league triumph is fading.

He told Sky Sports: "That's a fantastic result for them (Chelsea). They've got a home game against Bolton on Tuesday which they will be expected to win.

"It's slipping away. We needed to win today. We're now a point behind Chelsea and they've got a game in hand that will take it to four points.

"It's a big gap.

"We've got (Man) City next week, it's a derby game, it takes away that issue of winning the league.

"It makes it a different type of game and it's one we'll probably look forward to.

"The players committed themselves really well today, they put a great effort in. We were a bit unlucky with Rio Ferdinand's injury with 10 minutes to go.

"That was down to 10 men really."

Chance

United did not create a plethora of chances but Valencia's miss in the first half was one the manager rued after the final whistle.

"Our last third play wasn't good enough I'm afraid," Ferguson added.

"We had the chances in the game, I don't think they had any chances in the game.

"We dominated possession but that's not enough, you have to create those chances and take them.

"We had enough opportunities to do that in the last third of the field.

"Okay the pitch is lively, there's not much turf on it. It's always a difficult place to come to for anyone, but nonetheless we should have done better.

"That (Valencia's) was an outstanding chance, it actually jumped up for him a little bit.

"He should have scored. It was a golden chance and at a good time, five minutes before half-time.

"It's a blow, there's no doubt about that."
