Sol Campbell believes under-fire goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski would benefit from more regular action in the Arsenal first-team.

The Gunners' back-up shot-stopper has been criticised for a number of high-profile errors this season when deputising for Manuel Almunia, who is currently sidelined through injury.

He blundered when picking up a Campbell back-pass during the UEFA Champions League defeat away to Porto, with the duo then caught napping as the hosts took a quick free-kick to score.

Further errors against Wigan and Blackburn have seen the critics lining up against the 25-year-old Poland international, who veteran centre-back Campbell thinks needs more time on the field.

Campbell told Sky Sports News: "Everybody goes through stages. He's not played as many games as he would like to with Almunia being in there, so sometimes that helps when you play more games."

Arsenal's defence has come under the spotlight in a dismal four-game Premier League run which has seen them claim just one point, allowing Tottenham an outside chance of snatching third place in the table.

But Campbell is confident there is no need to panic and that all teams have spells when they find the going tough.

"We could have made it a little bit easier for ourselves," he admitted. "We've had a couple of results not go our way, but it happens in football and we have to dust ourselves down and go again.

"Everybody goes through it. Most of the clubs have gone through patches where things don't seem to be going the way they want to.

"We all want clean sheets, we all want to play well and win three or four-nil, but sometimes it doesn't always happen like that.

"We've just got to keep on fighting, keep on training well, doing the right things and I'm sure it will come around."

Sol Campbell was speaking at Harrods department store for the launch of a Bobby Moore iPod range, in aid of the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.
