Modric: Had attract interest
Tottenham Hotspur have announced that star midfielder Luka Modric has signed a new six-year contract at White Hart Lane.
The Croatia international was rumoured to be attracting the interest of Manchester United and Modric has confessed that 'big clubs' made contact, but Spurs boss Harry Redknapp was adamant that he did not want to sell.
Tottenham are preparing for next season in the UEFA Champions League after finishing fourth in the Premier League and are therefore keen to keep the key elements of their squad intact over the summer.
Modric's decision to commit to Spurs until 2016 therefore comes as a major boost and the 2008 signing from Dinamo Zagreb is now looking to the future.
The 24-year-old told Tottenham's official website: "Tottenham Hotspur gave me my chance in the Premier League and I want to go on to achieve great success here with them.
"Yes, there have been enquiries from other big clubs, but I have no interest in going anywhere.
"Last season's top-four finish was an indication of where we are as a club and I feel I can continue to improve and go on to achieve everything I want to at Spurs."

Great news for spurs regarding modric, he is truely class. One of the players I love watching, with his brilliant passing. Gomes and Palacios should be offered new deals! If Harry and Levy can pull of joe cole and dzeko, then it will really look interesting! A great job is being done!

Loyalty is not a word we use very often when we talk about footballers. Luka is a legend and Keano could learn a thing or two about loyalty from Luka. Come on you Spurs.

absolutely delighted. At least Spurs have players who dont commit their future elsewhere. At least he signed a new 6 year deal and is staying with my team Spurs. Absolutely over the moon. Hopefully Spurs can now qualify for the Champions League by beating a mediocre opposition where Modric will be an absolute must to have in the squad. So happy as a spurs fan he has committed his future to white hart lane and no where else where he might have gone for bigger club and alot more money at least one has a player who one can trust and is loyal to the fans and manager and staff. God bless you Luka you signed and those ridiculous rumours are now over. Spurs til I die.

Great news for Spurs! Modric is a top quality player who could, in my opinion, play for any team in England. Key to any success Tottenham achieve next season, which, with a few fresh faces coming in this summer, could be a last 16 possibly quarter final place in the Champions League and a further push up the table, possibly closing the gap on the top 3 which I believe will be Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City next season.

modric your a legend , i thought united would take him next year as they always admit interest a season before they take our stars, but now that luka has shunned them to stay with spurs it shows how much are team is growing in reputation and ability and shows true footballers respect the teams that gave them a chance and want to repay them for their belief and not just use them as a stepping stone . thxs luka u the man COYS!!!!
