Cesc Fabregas is refusing to be drawn into the transfer circus surrounding his future at Arsenal.

The Gunners skipper continues to be linked with a return to Barcelona, the club where he took the first tentative steps on the road to stardom.

He left his Catalan roots while still a teenager, swapping the academy system at Camp Nou for that in north London.

That decision was soon vindicated as he quickly graduated into the first-team fold at Arsenal.

Since then he has matured into one of the finest midfield talents in world football, with any number of clubs wishing they could boast his considerable talent within their ranks.

It is, however, Barcelona who have expressed the keenest interest in luring him away from Emirates Stadium.

They have already seen one bid knocked back this summer, but that has done little to dampen their spirit.

Isolated

Fabregas himself has admitted that he would be open to the idea of returning to his homeland and is believed to have asked Arsene Wenger to let him leave.

The Gunners remain reluctant to let their talismanic skipper head for the exits, though, and the saga looks set to drag on for some time yet.

With that in mind, and with World Cup duties with Spain dominating his thoughts at present, Fabregas is keen to put the issue to one side and focus on his international commitments.

"I am isolated from it all and I am not thinking about anything else apart from the national team," he said.

"I have come to play a World Cup, which is the best thing possible for a player, with the same excitement that I had at the World Cup in Germany when I was 19.

"I am hungry to do something important and the only thing I will do is always give everything, with a lot of desire and make sure the hunger and competitiveness are never lacking."
