Young: Will have the final say
Martin O'Neill has confirmed that Aston Villa have received a bid for full-back Luke Young.
The 31-year-old is now weighing up his options, with Villa prepared to let him leave should he wish to do so.
It is believed that Liverpool are the club to have made their move for the former England international, with a £2.75million offer on the table.
Villa are prepared to let Young decide what his future will hold and will not stand in his way if he wishes to continue his career elsewhere.
They are, however, happy for him to stay and have revealed that he could link up with their squad heading for the Guadiana Cup in Portugal.
"There has been an offer from a football club, which Luke is mulling over," O'Neill told Villa's official website.
"If it doesn't materialise then he would also join us (in Portugal) because he needs to play some football soon."
"We will see how that develops."
Young joined Villa from Middlesbrough in 2008 and has made over 50 appearances for the club during his two years in Midlands.
He has seven England caps to his name, but announced his retirement from international football in February 2009.

Outrageous !!! One of the most consistent right backs in the premier league. Why sell such a good right back and carry on playing a centre half in his position. O¿Neill has lost his head on this one I¿m afraid.

Its been a tough 12 months for Luke, First losing his brother is sad circumstances, Then being injured and losing his starting place, He can be a great player and he''ll be sadly missed but I just feel he''ll be moving from our bench to Liverpools bench - Good luck Kid!!!

i think this may have been a shrewed buy if we had held onto ensua. he is a player with so much potential. but i feel he was forced in to playing too many games last season due to injuries to other fullbacks. so i believe rafa had to play insua more than he probably would have liked. with the result that he really started to suffer at the tail end of last season. luke young can only be seen as very short term. i understand that we are trying to steady the ship/ roy hodgson will do that. but luke young and cover would be a good option. pity carra has lost of his pace as he was a splendid left back in the houllier era. still, agger could be utilised there if needed. interesting times at anfuled. God, I hope this is some kind of joke. Luke Young is hardly much of an improvement on Insua, and if he can''t get into the Villa team then he''s obviously no good. John Arne Riise wasn''t appreciated when he was with us, but you can see now what a good player he was for us..

Weird one this. Why is Roy after a right back when we currently have englands first choice right back at our club? We need to strengthen in other areas, bring in a left back, a midfielder and a striker please Roy.

It would be the right thing for luke young for he is not needed at aston villa. Liverpool need a good wing back and luke is the man for the job

His last game for Villa came in the 7-0 loss to Chelsea, coincidence?, he''s not a regular at Villa so why are Liverpool looking at him, £2.5-2.75 million on a 31 year old who''s nothing special seems a waste, I''d rather get another talented youngster or two with this money.

Luke Young should definitely sign. Liverpool should win a trophy this season, he will be playing some European football and should improve as a player. Could be good business for Liverpool as well, another quality English player for a great price.

Luke Young would make a useful addition to the Liverpool squad but I hope he isn''t bought to be a direct replacement for Insua and Aurelio

why on earth would liverpool want luke young? we have johnson as a right back and if hodgson thinks he will play at left back then there is someting wrong.

31 year old this is starting to feel like rafa benitez again, his too old and not good enough for lfc. If he comes in as cover for another left back then fair enough but as first choice i think as bad as insua is i feel his better than young. I was happy when i saw young i thought it was ashlet young :)

I have trusted your judgement so far Roy but bringing in a 31 yr old Luke Young who couldnt cement is place in a villa side (no disrespect to villa) but i think liverpool should be able to lure better players than young also the fact he is 31 were supposed to be building a squad for the future bringing in a 31 yr old in my opinion is not the future.

Is Luke Young not good enough for Villa but good enough for Liverpool. I kow he would bring up our ''English Quota'' but surely there are better full backs than him that are affordable!?....... Salcido of PSV and Mexico!?

Seems to be a "stop gap" signing for Roy! I hope we do not fall into the trap of panic signing as has been the case over recent years with Rafa............Sure would like to see the other Young from Villa land at Liverpool, Ashley Young!
