Chelsea captain John Terry has revealed he has been struggling with his hamstring injury since the World Cup.

The 29-year-old central defender has been ordered to rest for 10 days and will miss England's upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland.

He has been in good form so far this season, leading the Blues to three straight victories in which they have scored 14 goals without conceding once.

However, Terry admits that he has been playing through the pain on occasions, saying his hamstring problem has not gone away since South Africa.

"I have had a bit of a problem since the World Cup and I was hoping after the World Cup that I would have two weeks off and it would completely go away," he told Chelsea TV.

"But that wasn't the case and, coming back working hard, it came back on.

"I played the last England game (against Hungary) but I had to come off at half-time because of it.

"I have not made it public but I have been struggling with it and maybe I just need 10 days' rest to fully get over it because it could impact on my season."

Premier League champions Chelsea have been in imperious form so far this season, and Terry has singled out midfielder John Obi Mikel for praise.

"John had a really good pre-season and looks slimmer," he added. "He has done a bit of weights and really looks fit.

"We have missed Michael Essien the last couple of years and there is competition now.

"I think John feels that with Ramires coming in and Michael coming back, he feels he needs to step it up.

"He had a great season last year and the season before that but again he has kicked on, which is important for the young players to do."
