Stoke City have confirmed the arrivals of Eidur Gudjohnsen, Marc Wilson and Jermaine Pennant.

The trio, who were locked in talks throughout transfer deadline day, have all agreed deals which will take them to the Britannia Stadium.

Gudjohnsen and Wilson were expected to be on their way to the Potters on Tuesday, having been linked with the club for some time, but the arrival of Pennant came as something of a surprise.

Former Chelsea and Barcelona forward Gudjohnsen has joined on a season-long loan from Monaco, while Wilson has been snapped up from Portsmouth.

The deal for Wilson sees Liam Lawrence and David Kitson head in the opposite direction to Fratton Park.

Pennant, who has previously turned out for Arsenal, Liverpool, Leeds United, and Birmingham City in the Premier League, arrives on loan from Spanish outfit Real Zaragoza.

The last-minute deals complement the club-record signing of Kenwyne Jones and the capture of Jon Walters from Ipswich, with the Potters having enjoyed a productive summer transfer window.

Busy

"Manager Tony Pulis had clearly indicated that he wanted to bring in goals to his first-team squad and the signings of Gudjohnsen and Pennant, coming on top of those of Jones and Walters, fulfilled that objective on what proved to be a busy deadline day," read a statement on the club's official website.

"Pulis made a fourth signing on the day when experienced midfielder Salif Diao returned to the Britannia Stadium to sign a new two-year agreement.

"While Diao was putting pen to paper, Republic of Ireland U21 star Wilson arrived for talks about a player-plus-cash exchange deal that takes Liam Lawrence and David Kitson in the opposite direction to Championship club Portsmouth.

"Then, Icelandic international Gudjohnsen arrived for talks in the afternoon before being shown City's new £7million training facility at Clayton Wood.

"But in the final countdown to the 6pm transfer deadline, it emerged that Pulis, a long time admirer of Pennant, had managed to clinch the signing of the 27-year-old winger on a six-month loan agreement."Bet nowBet nowBet now

Mike Greenwood (Arsenal fan) says...

2 great signings for the Stoke .... not sure about Pennant though ... 5 teams have tried and 5 have failed .... so good luck with that one! .. Keep the long balls coming! .. Mr Pulis falling into Wengers trap I believe! ... Shame we havent signed a decent keeper to cancel most of the long balls and throw ins out like Chelsea and Manu easily do against you...

I would just like to say Stoke are a shining beacon to all clubs on how to be run, how to establish yourself in the premiership. I along with everyone thought they would disappear into nothing after being promoted, but they proved me and everyone wrong. I don''t angry with the "rugby club" view, yes you guys play a strong game, but you can also play some good football. Matty etherington is a quality little player (and I always thought should atleast get an England friendly), k jones is a fantastic signing, and shawcross at the back will be an England regular. I know Stoke will be an established team for years to come ala Bolton, fulham etc good luck guys

Darren Routledge (Stoke City fan) says...

Eidur Gudjohnsen, Marc Wilson and Jermaine Pennant are the calibre of players Stoke have been crying out for. Players who will help Stoke maintain their midtable status but have the quality to help us push on a bit. I just hope Tony Pulis is brave enough to play Pennant and Matty Etherington at the same time? We now possess a group of forward who would thrive on a steady supply of good crosses and Wilson is a good player who can put his foot on the ball and pass it! Delap has been brilliant for Stoke but we now need to move on, he should only be used as a last ditch sub when we are pushing to save a game, not our main form of attack. Just like the second half against Spurs we need to let our high tempo football take centre stage.

Great to see that Pulis and Coates have been shrewd in the transfer market. Three quality signings and will give a lot of competition for a starting place. Lets just hope that Pulis can get the best out of Pennant as a lot has been said about his attitude in the past.....
