Roque Santa Cruz has not given up on securing a move to Italy and hopes Lazio will rekindle their interest during the January transfer window.

The Manchester City striker came close to joining the Serie A giants this summer, but saw a deal collapse on deadline day.

The Paraguayan now finds himself facing an uncertain future at Eastlands, with first-team opportunities expected to be hard to come by.

Santa Cruz is prepared to bide his time, though, before making a move elsewhere and admits he would welcome the opportunity to link up with Lazio in the New Year.

He told Corriere dello Sport: "I had hoped to arrive in Rome, that was my dream. Unfortunately, the deal fell through.

"There has been a lot of talk of my arrival to Italy and perhaps next time it will materialise.

Offers

"We will see what happens in the next few months.

"I don't like to look too far away and I don't know what Lazio's intentions are.

"I have received many offers but I had hoped to play in Rome.

"I have been happy in England but Italian football fascinates me and I would love to have an experience in Serie A."

Santa Cruz has been named in City's squad for the first half of the 2010/11 campaign, but boss Roberto Mancini is currently well-stocked in the striking department.

As a result, the 29-year-old may struggle to add to the 22 appearances he has made for the Blues since arriving from Blackburn in a big-money deal last summer.
