Micah Richards has set a target to return in time for Manchester City's game against Blackburn on Saturday.

The 22-year-old missed out on captaining England Under 21s' two European Championship qualifiers against Portugal and Lithuania due to a chest infection.

However the versatile defender is hopeful he can take his place in City's starting line-up for the weekend's Premier League home date with Blackburn.

"I really felt under the weather but I do feel a lot better now. I was coughing and being sick. I trained yesterday and felt better," he told the club's official website.

"Hopefully, I'll be OK for the weekend. I can't wait to get back on a pitch."

Gutted

Richards also admitted he was still "gutted" to have given away a late penalty against Sunderland, which Darren Bent converted to condemn City to a first defeat of the season at the Stadium of Light last month.

"I'm happy with my form, but I was gutted to give away the penalty at Sunderland. I think he would have scored anyway. But it was annoying for it to be in the last minute after I'd done alright," he added.

"I was just about to head it clear when it took a deflection off Vincent, I think. But if you look at the replay, he's definitely going to put it in the back of the net. It's unfortunate, but it happens."
