The Algeria international suffered the blow after being tackled by Steve Sidwell and he was immediately rushed to hospital for an X-ray.

Scans have now confirmed he has fractured his tibia, meaning an enforced spell on the sidelines for the 24-year-old who secured a permanent move to Molineux over the summer.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has bemoaned the long-term nature of the injury as the French-born Algerian had been utilised off the bench in four of the club's Premier League games.

"It's desperately disappointing news both for Adlene and the club," he told the club's official website. "Everyone wishes him all the best in his recovery."

Head of Wolves' medical department Steve Kemp is pleased the fracture was not displaced, meaning he will not require surgery that could have hindered his recovery time.

"It is going to be a lengthy absence but on the plus side the consultant has told us it's an uncomplicated fracture," said Kemp. "In these situations that's as good as it gets.

"Adlene will be in a full leg non weight-bearing cast for four weeks before progressing to a partial weight-bearing cast after that."
