Jagielka: Staying with Everton
Everton have announced that defender Phil Jagielka has signed a new four-year contract at Goodison Park.
The agreement, which will last until 2015, represents a significant achievement for cash-strapped manager David Moyes after a frustrating season.
Centre-back Jagielka, 28, is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and the England international has been linked with several clubs around Europe.
But ahead of Saturday evening's home match against Fulham, Everton have succeeded in convincing the former Sheffield United star that he can fulfil his ambition on Merseyside.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Phil Jagielka has signed a new four-year contract at Everton.
"The deal keeps the central defender at Goodison Park until 2015."
Jagielka's previous deal was set to expire in 2014, but Everton have taken steps to ensure he stays for an additional 12 months on improved terms.
He arrived from Sheffield United in 2007, but suffered a serious knee injury in the second part of the 2008/09 season.
Jagielka returned to Moyes' plans just over a year ago and only narrowly missed out on travelling to the 2010 World Cup with England.
