Lennon was forced to pull out of the Spurs starting XI just minutes before their midweek UEFA Champions League defeat to Real Madrid due to illness.

Following the 4-0 defeat former Leeds man Lennon felt he was being made a scapegoat for the loss insisting he was feeling unwell for a number of days before the game with Real.

It has been suggested that Lennon was unhappy with Redknapp's assessment of the problem, but the Spurs boss says there is no problem with the winger and he is refusing to blame the England star for the defeat in the Spanish capital.

Asked about his relationship with Lennon, Redknapp said: "Good, I've got no problems with Aaron whatsoever.

"He wasn't well the other day, the kid wasn't well enough to play.

"I asked him two or three minutes before kick-off because I could see he was sitting there not looking particularly well and he said 'I've got no strength, no energy, but I will give it a go' I said 'do you think you are capable' and he said he might only last five or ten minutes.

"I couldn't let the kid go on the pitch if he had a virus and he went out and ran around the pitch and collapsed and something happened to the kid anyway.

"No-one wanted to play more than he did. He was desperate to play, but he wasn't well the kid - he was ill."

Lennon is a major doubt for this weekend's home clash with Stoke, but Redknapp will give him until the last minute to prove his fitness.

"We are waiting to see how he is today," added Redknapp. "He will be doubtful but it depends how he feels. If he doesn't train he has got no chance."
