Kakuta: Bolton's on-loan winger Gael Kakuta ready to make a splash in the first team
Bolton loanee Gael Kakuta insists he is ready to challenge for a first-team place despite starting just one game this season.
The 20-year-old joined Bolton on a season-long loan in a bid to gain more experience after finding his chances at Chelsea limited.
Kakuta scored on his debut for the Trotters against Aston Villa in the Carling Cup but the form of Martin Petrov has left him frustrated on the sidelines.
"I came here to play. No player likes to be sitting on the bench," said Kakuta.
"I understand that you have to earn your place and I'm confident in my own ability and know that I will make the most of this opportunity.
"It was enjoyable to score on my debut but that's in the past now and I obviously want to play as much as I can.
"I feel comfortable in the team and that is always a bonus because it helps you play your best football."
In each of the last two seasons Bolton have played a prominent role in shaping the careers of talented young players.
Last term, Daniel Sturridge enjoyed a rewarding campaign at the Reebok Stadium and the season before that Jack Wilshere mushroomed from a callow teenager to a confident Premier League player.
This is something Kakuta hopes to replicate.
"I'm a Chelsea player at the end of the day," he told the Bolton Evening News.
"I'm obviously extremely grateful for the opportunity to play here at Bolton Wanderers, but my main aim is to get into that Chelsea first team."
