Scotland are likely to be without Darren Fletcher for next month's Euro 2008 qualifier in Georgia due to injury.

Fletcher was hurt during Wednesday's heroic win in France following a challenge from former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira.

Alex McLeish was forced to replace Fletcher after just 25 minutes and the injury has ruled the Manchester United man out for six weeks.

It means Fletcher is struggling to be fit for the 17th October qualifier in Georgia, with suspension keeping the midfielder out of the 13th October game with Ukraine.

Nasty challenge

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed the length of absence and the United boss was unhappy with Vieira's tackle.

"Darren will be out for six weeks, which is a disappointment," said Ferguson.

"It was a really bad, nasty challenge."

Fletcher has become a key component in the Scotland midfield and was captain for last week's 3-1 win over Lithuania in the absence of regular skipper Barry Ferguson.
